Heritage 2022 Short Prose and Poetry Competition

In association with the NZSA Heritage Book Awards, the Canterbury Branch of the NZSA proudly brings you the Heritage 2022 Short Prose and Poetry Competition. The competition is open to entry by NZ citizens and permanent residents of New Zealand. The awards ceremony receives support from the Christchurch City Council and the theme is linked each year to the annual Christchurch Heritage Festival.

Open for submissions from 1 June to 1 August.

The theme for 2022 is Our Stories – Milestones and Moments

Categories

SHORT PROSE: Short prose (fiction and nonfiction) Up to 2,500 words. Short prose may include a chapter/s from an unpublished book. Judge: Carl Nixon

POETRY:  up to 50 lines. Judge: Joanna Preston

Winners of the Short Prose and Poetry categories will each receive $200.

Entry Fee: $15 per entry

Submission guidelines:

Please submit your entry as a Word doc or PDF to the entry form

Do NOT include your name on your entry.

Please present your work in 1.5 or double spacing using a clear font.

All entries must be received by 11.59pm, 1 August 2022 using the entry form.

Shortlists will be announced early October and the winners and runners up will be announced on 20th October 7pm, at St Michael & All Angels, Christchurch as part of the Christchurch Heritage Festival and the NZSA Heritage Book Awards. Winners will be invited to read their work at this event.

The judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Members of the NZSA Canterbury committee are not permitted to enter.
